Jelena Smiljanić was born in Serbia where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in telecommunications from the University of Belgrade. After finishing her master studies, she started her research career at the Institute of Physics Belgrade. Her research interests focus on applying statistical physics, complex networks theory and data science techniques, to study how different real-world systems are organized. She received her PhD from the University of Belgrade in 2017. In her dissertation, she has analyzed the interplay between network structure and the dynamics of event-driven social groups.
Jelena joined Icelab as a postdoctoral researcher in 2018. She started to work on dealing with uncertainty in community detection algorithm. She likes exploring various domains, because learning new things is like putting together the pieces of the puzzle.
